Paying for Paul's services

How is Paul supported?

Paul's income is derived from three main sources - donations from supporting individuals and churches, tentmaking work outside the Christian sector, and payment for his books and services.

Paul is registered for tax purposes as a self-employed sole trader. This means he records his taxable income and makes a self-assessment return to HMRC for tax purposes. He is voluntarily accountable to the Board of the Centre for Christianity in society in his ministry work, but is not an employee.

How much should we pay for Paul's services?

Paul offers his consultancy, mentoring speaking and training services to churches, Christian organisations and Christian leaders on a 'pay what you can afford' basis.

This means these services are available to all irrespective of ability to pay. Payment at a higher level allows Paul to make services available for free or at less than full value for those who have less, including in Eastern Europen countries which he visits periodically.

Suggested amounts for services are:

  • One hour of mentoring or advice to an individual or group - between £50 and £150.

  • One hour of training or a single talk - between £100 and £200.

  • Each half day of training, retreat leading or conference participation - between £150 and £250.

  • Planning, running and reporting on a survey - between £500 and £1000 depending on numbers.

These figures include preparation and travel time and allow for tax to be paid, but do not cover expenses for travel or any necessary food and accommodation. Please consider those additional costs in any total honorarium as well.

Please note:

  • These are suggested amounts only - you are free to pay more or less as you are able and see fit.

  • Paul does not decline or accept invitations based on ability to pay or amount of payment offered - he evaluates requests based on his availability and assessment of his suitability to meet the need.

  • The quality of services is entirely unaffected by ability to pay or the amount of any payment.
